A tourist " L " visa CAN NOT be changed into a business " M " visa as of November 22, 2004, according to the visa regulation changes made by Beijing Public Security Bureau.

A " L " visa or a " M " visa can be upgraded to a " Z " visa under some circumstances, this mainly applies to those who come to Beijing taking high-rankijng job titles, e.g., chief representatives of Rep. Offices, professors in schools, or vice general managers with their name showing on the employer’s business license of foreign-invested companies,

Note that double and multiple entry F visas you get from overseas Chinese consulates usually have a limit of 30 days on the duration of each stay in China. However, this limit can be removed in Beijing. Once the limit is removed you can stay in China up to the date of expiry.
